Dear Parent,
Your child’s school is taking part in a new initiative called the Daily School Route (DSR), which is an active transportation system for kids. Part of this initiative is creating safe routes for children to walk and wheel to and from school.
In Fall 2020, parents and children were invited to use a tool called School Walk to better understand walk-to-school habits. The next step in this initiative is to identify the main routes that students are taking when walking to school. We would like to designate these routes as ‘school routes’ and place student-specific wayfinding signage along them. This will have several important outcomes:
1) Emphasize areas for safety improvements and encouragement activities
2) Routes become more recognizable for new walkers/wheelers
3) More students traveling along the same route
Based on the results of School Walk and some on-ground observation, we have determined what we believe to be the main routes. The purpose of this survey is for you, the school community, to provide feedback to let us know whether they are correct. The following slides will illustrate the results from School Walk before asking for feedback about these routes.
